Self Doubt: What is Self Doubt?

Updated: Feb 5

Self-doubt can show up in many different ways.

Self-doubt may show up as:

- difficulty believing in yourself

- low self-esteem

-questioning if you are "good enough"

- having past peoples' words play over in your mind of statements that you question

- feeling like you don’t belong in different spaces

- feeling like an outsider among certain groups

-feeling as though you have to prove yourself

- knowing that you have the necessary credentials or qualifications but not wanting to go after your goals because you feel like you don't "deserve them"

Self Doubt often creeps up on us in moments when we are thinking about doing something different or when we are making big life changes. Sometimes it's the things we have internalized from toxic environments or relationships, other times it's our worst fears or negative self-beliefs that we know we need to challenge in order to progress forward.

Some of the antidotes to self-doubt can be continuing learning even though we may struggle at times, practicing positive self-talk and listening to affirmations to help rewire our subconscious beliefs, and building moments of self-empowerment, courage, and hope where we do the hard things we need to do, in order to get where we want to go in life, one moment at a time. You don't have to do it all at once.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Lao Tzu
