Customizing
Your Sessions
My therapeutic approach is eclectic and integrative, therefore my approach varies from person to person, depending upon your goals, what you want, what we discuss may benefit you, and what you may need. I use many different theories and techniques in how I work with clients.
For example, during client treatment I may use theories and techniques from:
Existential theory, Intersectional Feminist, Mindfulness, Adlerian (IP), Psychoeducation, Attachment Based, Neurobiology, Somatic/Polyvagal Informed, Trauma Informed, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systems Theory, Bronfenbrenner Ecological Systems, Gestalt, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Expressive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Person Centered, and others.
Collaboration:
In therapy sessions, I will talk with you about different therapy styles and techniques. We can explore and collaborate on what resonates with you, what treatment methods/modalities may be most helpful to explore, and what you would like to include in your future sessions.
Sometimes, if you or I believe that you may benefit from certain treatment styles that I don't use, I will be able to give you a referral to a different therapist or treatment provider. It wont hurt my feelings. I believe that your life is your journey. I can travel some of it with you but you are the one who has to decide what is best for you. Emergency situations are more complex but we can talk about that in your free 15 minute consultation.
Psychoeducation:
I often provide psychoeducation on different symptoms or issues that come up in session, regarding neuroscience, trauma, relational skills, and many more topics.
Media & Books: (Bibliotherapy)
Sometimes we may use books, media, techniques, skills, and/or content that you can do outside of your counseling sessions, which we can then discuss and draw from for your sessions (aka bibliotherapy).
